Persian New Year, Fresh Starts & My Expired Product Disaster
Spring is here, and with it comes Nowruz, the Persian New Year—a time of renewal, fresh starts, and letting go of what no longer serves us. It’s all about clearing out the old to make space for something better.
And let me tell you, I recently learned this lesson the hard way.
The other day, I grabbed a product from my shower, pumped it into my hands, and applied it to my hair like usual. But almost immediately, something smelled…off. At first, I thought I was imagining it, but as the scent got stronger, I knew something was wrong.
I flipped the bottle over, looked inside, and it was completely expired. The texture was weird, the smell was rancid, and I had just massaged it into my scalp. Disgusting.
I was so embarrassed that I hadn’t thought to check sooner! And it made me realize—how many of us have expired products sitting in our showers right now?
With natural products like the ones we use at Siren Curl Studio, expiration dates matter even more. Without synthetic preservatives, they can go bad faster, leading to:
Ineffective results
Expired products won’t nourish or protect your hair the way they should.
Scalp & skin irritation
Old ingredients can break down and cause unexpected reactions.

Warm, steamy showers + an old bottle = a breeding ground for bacteria.
So as we step into the Persian New Year, I challenge you to embrace the spirit of renewal—go check your products. Flip over your bottles and look for the little open jar symbol with a number inside (6M, 12M, etc.). That’s how many months it’s good for after opening! If it’s expired, toss it. Your hair and skin will thank you.
This moment reminded me why fresh starts matter—not just for our routines, but in everything we do. As we head toward 2025, I’m bringing this mindset to Siren too.
