Humidity Is Coming—Are You Ready?
Your SPRING HAIR forecast?
Hey! Last few weeks, we talked all about how to find out your hair’s porosity using the water test
(remember the floating strand in the glass of water?)
Did you try it?
If yes—amazing! You’re one big step closer to building a routine that actually works with your hair.
If not—no worries! Just grab a clean, dry strand and give it a little swim in a glass of water today.
💧 Strand float? = Low porosity
💧 Sink slowly? = Normal porosity
💧 Sink fast? = High porosity
Now, let's talk about it!
LOW POROSITY HAIR
What it means: Your cuticles are tight. Moisture takes forever to get in—but once it’s in, it stays.
Your hair is prone to Build-up, flat roots, product sitting on top, puff with no definition.
What to do:
✅ Use lightweight, water-based products like aloe or glycerin leave-ins.
✅ Apply product on warm, soaking wet hair to help your cuticle open.
✅ Try steam or warm rinses to boost hydration.
✅ Clarify 1–2x/month to remove pollen, product, and hard water build-up.
❌ Avoid heavy oils or butters—they’ll just sit there.
NORMAL/MEDIUM POROSITY
What it means: Your hair absorbs and retains moisture pretty evenly.
Your hair is prone to Occasional frizz, mild puff, uneven definition in humidity.
What to do:
✅ Use a balanced routine with light to medium stylers.
✅ Look for products with ingredients like flaxseed gel, marshmallow root, or light silicones.
✅ Moisturize regularly and focus on curl definition + shape.
✅ Don’t skip deep conditioning—it helps you maintain balance.
HIGH POROSITY HAIR
What it means: Your cuticles are open or damaged. Moisture gets in fast… and escapes just as quickly.
Your hair is prone to Major frizz, dry ends, curls that won’t hold shape.
What to do:
✅ Use rich creams, oils, or butters to seal in hydration.
✅ Always start with a leave-in, then layer with a styler + sealer.
✅ Try protein treatments to help fill in gaps in your cuticle.
✅ Rinse with cool water to help close cuticles on wash day.
✅ Look for anti-humidity stylers with curl-friendly silicones (like polyquaterniums or dimethicone).
